“New construction windows are used when a brand new home or a new addition to a home is being built. Since the studs of the home are exposed the window can be installed directly on to the frame by use of a nail fin frame, which means it is nailed into the framing of the home.”

Big Projects Need the Best Support

When it comes to new windows, many people immediately look to retrofitting windows into the existing frame. This is the most economical option, but it presents some key disadvantages compared to new construction windows:

  • Size: Retrofitted windows are necessarily smaller than the original window openings, because the new casement is installed inside the old one. Retrofitted windows are normally 3 inches smaller on each side.
  • Insulation: Because the orginal window opening isn’t being exposed, we are unable to inspect and replace old or inadequate insulation around the window.

New construction windows offer a better design, since the windows can be significantly larger. They also can save you money over time on energy costs, since the process of installing new windows insures that the edges are properly insulated.
